Bruce’s Interest in Working with Nurses Who are Veterans or Active Duty Military Service Members

If you are a veteran or active duty military service member and have a paper that requires editing, I would be honored to work with you.

In the U.S. Army, I served as a surgical technician at the 91st Evacuation Hospital in Chu Lai, Viet Nam and, later, as a medical corpsman at the 56th General Hospital in Germany. Following discharge, I worked as a lead instructor of a stress management–substance abuse program conducted at over 20 bases in the U.S. Army European (USAEURA) Command. Our core program was the Transcendental Meditation (TM) program. The TM Program at USAEURA was used for a variety of applications, including wellness promotion, resiliency training, stress management, and substance abuse treatment and prevention.

More recently, as a volunteer appointee, I’ve served as a commissioner in the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Commission and as co-chair of the Health Workgroup of the Governor’s Interagency Council on Veterans. I’ve also volunteered at the San Francisco VA Medical Center (in the Mental Health department and the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center), the American Legion Veterans’ Success Center; Vet to Vet, and American Legion Cesar E. Chavez Post 505. In 2013, I had the honor of serving on the California Community College Chancellor’s Office Student Veterans Focus Group. In addition, as a member or donor I‘ve enjoyed supporting several other veterans’ organizations, including Student Veterans of America, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, Operation Warrior Wellness, and Soldier’s Heart.

From my veterans’ volunteer work, from conversations with friends who are veterans, and from my own experience, I’ve come to understand some of the opportunities and challenges that we veterans experience when engaging in higher education. If I can be of service to you in your capacity as a nurse and as a veteran or active duty military service member, I’ll be delighted to do so.
